I cannot get this to work... has anybody tried this successfully?

Webmin installs fine, but i cannot access the server on port 10000

Basically, timeout ensues. I suspect the firewall is the issue, but I'm clueless on iptables (although I have triple-checked that I have followed the instructions to the letter!)

Are you accessing the webmin interface using the eth0 LAN port on the MC server?

If not, change the -i eth0 parameter in the first post to the LAN port you are actually using (eth1, eth2 etc).

If it works, you'll then need to re-instate the port 10000 block which you'd opened up on eth0, which I presume is just changing the -j ACCEPT to -j DENY and running the same line again.

Is webmin running too? (ps aux and its something like miniserv.pl (years since I used it, so may have changed) or netstat -an | grep 10000)

Hope that helps!

Regards
Chris

thanks for the advice!

I've checked & yes, it's the eth0 interface I'm using for access

I see miniserv.pl running and the netstat command did show:

tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:10000 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN
udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:10000 0.0.0.0:*

so it looks like webmin is running...

very strange...! Guess I'll have to teach myself iptables!

hmm... maybe the line should have been:

vi /etc/init.d/bootmisc.sh

?
