Changing SMTP Retry Intervals

Postby CounterStrike » Wed Dec 27, 2006 3:03 pm

Hi All,

Happy holidays! I was wondering if someone could tell me how to adjust the smtp rety intervals. Specifically this is for mail that is being relayed off of MailCleaner. I believe the retry interval right now are

"the retries are configured like this:

F,2h,15m; G,16h,1h,1.5; F,2d,6h

and this means, MailCleaner will try every 15 minutes for 2 hours, then with intervals starting at one hour and increasing by a factor of 1.5 up to 16 hours, then every 6 hours up to 2 days."

I need to adjust this so the retry times out after 2 hrs instead of the 2 days. Also, is there a mail delay notification that is sent back to the user at somepoint in that retry schedule before it times out?

Thanks,

Ted

these retries will soon be configurable through the interface, but in the mean time I'm afraid you'll have to hack the /usr/mailcleaner/etc/exim/exim_stage4.conf_template file.

If you want to stop after 2 hours (which seems to me a little bit short), only keep the F,2h,15m rule.

You can have a look here http://www.exim.org/exim-html-4.63/doc/html/spec_html/ch32.html for complete documentation.
