reject envelope senders - blacklist not working

Postby ics » Tue Jan 13, 2015 2:45 pm

Hi,

I want to filter by envelope senders addresses. I tried to add addresses in the "Reject these senders addresses" field but it only filters by senders address and it doesn't work when the envelope sender's address is different from the sender's address.

How can I do ?

EDIT: I renamed the title of this topic as things have changed since my initial issue.

Actually I want to block these spams unsing the envelope sender's address :

Adding *@ecmx.*.* in the field "Reject these senders addresses" doesn't help.

I just checked the DBs on both nodes and they are different :
On the slave:

Code: Select all

mysql> select sender_reject from mta_config;
+---------------+
| sender_reject |
+---------------+
| NULL          |
| NULL          |
| NULL          |
+---------------+

On the master :

Code: Select all

mysql> select sender_reject from mta_config;
+------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| sender_reject                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    |
+------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| *@*.click
bounce@leadsvr*.pro
*@ecmx.*.*
*@*.net.in
*@*.ind.in
*@*.firm.in
*@*.gen.in |
| NULL                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             |
| NULL                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             |
+------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+

And only the emails *@*.click are blocked. It seems that all other spams are not blocked.
What can I do ?
How to force synchronization of the DBs ?

Strange thing: it begins to work and block the blacklisted envelope senders addresses hours after the setup of this blacklist...
I don't know yet if all items of the list works. The slave's DB is still empty...
Any clue why I get this behavior ?

Now it is weird! It seems to work correctly even if the envelope is not the same as the "from" address.
But it does not work for *@ecmx.*.*

Here is a summary of the issue.

Hmhm...
Maybe this can help:
http://www.exim.org/exim-html-current/d ... lists.html

But I can't say if you've done anything wrong right now.

Hi,
I am still having this issue. Regular expression is not the problem.
Blacklisted senders are blocked many hours (sometimes even days) after I added in the list.
Restarting mailcleaner doesn't help.

Anyone ?

Nobody has the same issue ?
I can't believe nobody uses the "Reject these senders addresses" field.

hi,

i think i had the same problem.

- i needed to resync the master slave db:

Code: Select all

/usr/mailcleaner/bin/resync_db.sh

- if you get an error like insufficient permission, you need to change the permission:

Code: Select all

cd /usr/mailcleaner/bin/
chmod 755 resync_db.sh

-> After that run the resync again

- Last i needed to restart the "incoming MTA" service on the mailcleaner web gui.

all my blacklist entrys are now visible in:

Code: Select all

cat /var/mailcleaner/spool/tmp/exim/blacklists/senders

regards

Actually I found the solution by myself.
I had to use real regular expression
For example to reject all email senders with an address ending with ".xyz":
^.*\.xyz$

the star does not mean "all" in regular expression, it means "match 0 or more of the preceding token"...
Now my Reject sender list perfectly works.

Specifically, the expression you have is
"Start from the beginning of the line, and for any number of any character, until you reach the escaped period, .xyz _at the end of the line_"

I use a similar structure on my postfix systems.

The shortcoming here is whether or not what you're looking for actually ends at the end of the line. I have a system that, for example, has to have another character added after the .xyz.
